End of Tour!
Yeah, wow. So tour ended a while back. Which meant I basically gave up on finishing the blog. BUT! For those of you holding your breath (Frank), here is the final post: End of Tour Extravaganza!
Because these pictures don't require much explanation, I'm just going to throw them up. This was everyone having a good time at Lulu's. And I don't understand what it is about NYC, but somehow my shirt tends to come off while there.
Enjoy!

CALEBS BIRTHDAY, October 4th (1983).
The show was at Notre Dame - for those of you who don't know, it's in South Bend, Indiana.
College shows are funny. They had a sweet restaurant where we got some sweet food. After Matt and Kim played there was a Chris Farley impersonator! We heard a bit of him outside.
Totally Michael played with us again, and they had some TVs up next to the stage.

Since I have a creepy skull tattoo, I was trying to think of ways to make it less creepy. Matt helped out with a sharpee.
After the show we drove a little ways and got a hotel. This next image isn't for the faint-hearted. But this is what tour had done to my feet.

The only other time I had had this problem was when I hitch hiked across country with my best friend Josh. That time I didn't take my shoes or socks off for about about 6 days in a row. I'm not sure what was going on with this tour.

10/03 in Chicago still.
Hey everyone.
Sorry for the delay in the blogs. Since the purchase of my iPhone, I haven't been as concerned with finding "real" internet. Hence, can't put up photos. But finally, finally we're back in NYC. As you may have noticed though, this blog is for the 3rd, and so in blog world, I'm still in Chicago. A quick look back at some of the more recent blogs has brought to my attention the waining quality in my writing. I'll attribute this to fatigue. Now that I'm finally back on a relaxing schedule, I'll try and make these last few blogs as good as possible. Which I suppose isn't saying too much.
Ok, let's see... October 3rd. This was actually a day off. Since we had been out late the night before we slept very late. Noon or one, sometime around then. Kim had been making a big stink about getting to go to "Hot Dougs", which apparently is some sort of Chicago treat. As the name implies, Hot Dougs serves hot dogs. Hot dogs in a variety of meats... in fact, there was alligator and other more exotic things on the menu. Luckily for me they also had veggie dogs and veggie corn dogs. Even though the hot dogs were great, I can't fully endorse a place that murders alligators. Sorry Doug.
I honestly can't remember what happened in between breakfast at Doug's and the late evening, but fast forward to dinner where we went to an all you can eat Indian buffet. Some friends including Dan Deacon - who had canceled some shows due to a straight 45 days of touring with no days off - came out and we had a nice time. Even though Kim hates spicy food and refused to try anything, and ended up ordering some boring vegetable thing that looked bland. Besides Kim, everyone was very full and very happy.
The night before we had planned on having a bonfire at Alex's house, which is across the street from Julia's house, the house we were staying at. But rain ruined those plans, so we tried to make it up.
Just before we got over to the house we heard sirens and found the fire department outside, rushing the back yard. This was as high quality an image I could muster:

That's a fire truck.
But Chicagos best quickly realized the fire was well contained in a trash can, and left the party alone.

The best part about the fire is the treated lumber from the garage that was used. It was crackling and melting and putting out blue and green flames. I guess safety and not air quality is a fire mans' only concern.
Oh! I forgot to mention. And for those of you who don't know: at midnight something special happened. I turned 24. Yippie, right? Everyone at Julia's had a shot of whiskey with me, and this was the only drink I had all night.
I was in a bummer mood because of this (the birthday, not the shot) and the only thing in the world that could cheer me up happened to be over at Alex's house.
A trampoline!
Matt was nice enough to hang out with me and we both did some jumping. It's really hard to get shots of people while trampolining for some reason, but we tried.

We both managed some halfassed back flips and front flips, and it was basically awesome. Apparently during our jumping the police showed up to check on the fire, but when everyone told them that the fire department had deemed it safe, they said OK and left! Matt and I were so busy jumping we actually missed this entire exchange.
I was so beat that for a while I fell asleep sitting down in a chair back at Julia's, but I moved over to her comfy couch in the middle of the night. Not a bad birthday evening.
Once again, Chicago is A-OK.

October 2nd
Well. It's a new month, and although it's technically the same tour, things feel different. I guess because there is no Against Me! people to hang out with, or a bus to hang out on, or another tour manager to do my job.
Our drive from San Diego was fine. We made it to Chicago on the 1st, went to a bar, then went to bed. We woke up late and got ready for the show at the Logan Square Auditorium. Although there was no Against Me!, there was Totally Michael and Dan Deacon.
Matt & Kim
Dan Deacon
Totally Michael.
That was the line up. A full show - 3 bands - four people. If you remove Dans last name and the totally from Totally Michael, you would have the Matt and Kim and Dan and Michael show. I know I'm dwelling on this point, but I just think it's funny. When I was in high school the bands all had four members, they played guitars and drums and the names usually involved anarchy signs and X's. I guess things have changed a bit since then.
Piiiiiiiiiiiiiictures. Most of them speak for themselves, so I'll just let them.

Matt and Kim's manager Kevin taking a picture with his Blackberry.

Hmm... Looking back at these next few pictures, I realized they are in the day light, meaning they might actually be from tomorrow (October 3rd). That's what you get when I post these babies a few days late. But, we were in Chicago for like four days and it's all just one big blur.
Matt and a kitten.

Kim and Julia.

Kim wanted me to make a big stink in the blog and brag about how Julia gave her that bra, and it was a "C" cup. But you know what? This is my blog. And I'm too tired to make boob jokes.
Before the show we met up with Matt and Kim's Manager, Kevin, and had some food. Kevin and I ended up having a nice chat, and he ended up buying me like twenty beers. Or well, two beers, but I hadn't eaten anything all day, so I was already pretty buzzed by the time I walked back up to the venue. As you can tell though, the show was awesome, the kids were going crazy, and everyone played great.
Chicago is fun. I like the kids there. They like to party 24 hours a day, and even though I like to sleep about 12 hours a day, I do like to party for at least 10-15 minutes every other day. And after the show we went to an after party across the street from Julia's where I proceeded to drink 1/2 a beer, wonder back across the street to Julia's alone and fall asleep on the couch while watching Everybody Loves Raymond. But in my defense, I hate that show and was merely too tired to bother trying to change the channel.
